Filmed across seven different countries, in 20 locations and in just 40 days, the movie captures the stories of everyday people in Brazil, Peru, Tanzania, Canada, Germany, Switzerland and the USA who have achieved extraordinary impact with their social good projects.

“WHO CARES?” defines the concept “social entrepreneurship” and connects with viewers by opening a discussion about ethics, empathy, citizenship, and the potential for everybody to make a difference in their community, whether they’re focused on human rights, poverty, environmental issues, or working in the tech sector.

Directed by Mara Mourao and produced by Mamo Filmes and Grifa Filmes the film also features Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus, Ashoka’s founder and CEO Bill Drayton, and a handful of Ashoka Fellows, including Wellington Nogueira, Vera Cordeiro, Bart Weetjens, Al Etmanski, Mary Gordon, Rodrigo Baggio, and John Mighton, profiling the spirit of Ashoka’s ‘Everyone a Changemaker’ motto.

Anybody can be a social entrepreneur. It’s not some divine blessing. You don’t take a pill to become a social entrepreneur. You simply become aware of your own power of transformation,” says Dener Giovanini, Ashoka Fellow.

About Your Hosts

Both Angie Muccillo (Arts in Action) and Tania Sernia (Do Good Radio/TV) are current students of the The School For Social Entrepreneurs (SSE) incubator program. Besties at ‘school’ and with a shared interest in promoting and profiling the work of socially active and innovative individuals and their world changing ideas and solutions, Angie and Tania are excited about collaborating on this special event for the social enterprise community and those interested in getting started.

Angie hosts a monthly Social Action Film Night showcasing documentaries that serve to move, challenge and inspire social action. Tania is producer and presenter of Do Good Radio & TV which profiles the back stories of social entrepreneurs, founders of NFP’s and individuals making the shift from the world we have, to the world we want. You can hear the podcasts via Itunes , Stitcher and off the Do Good Radio website.

Tania asks her interviewees the question “What was that moment that made you take action?” Angie presents films that arouse people’s emotions, change their perspectives and motivate them to take action. Tania produces the type of content that Arts in Action loves to present, so it is with much delight that we invite you to see both our “passion projects” in action! Join us for the screening of “Who Cares?” and meet the brilliant people who do. Hear from our own local heroes during a post screening Q&A and be moved by their trailblazing stories.

Both Tania and Angie know from experience that social entrepreneurs like a responsible beverage so please come along to the Bella Union Bar and mingle anytime from 6.30pm. Seats are limited so arrive early to avoid missing out!
